TOM MAYBERRY UPDATE
On Friday July 11th Tom
had his shoulder operated on, below is a message from Tom regarding his
condition.
Just a note letting
everybody know what's going on. First, thank you for all the well wishes
I have received it really makes me feel better. The doctor, Dr. James
Hurley, said after the procedure that the tear was one of the worst he
has ever had to repair (that's not good). He said that what ever they
use to fix these problems they normally us 2 pieces, in mine he had to
use 6. He said it appears that there was a tear there from a prior
injury (that's not good), he said he could repair 7/8ths of the muscle
the part that was torn prior he could not fix. Instead of being in a
sling for 3-4 weeks he told me it will be 6 weeks, he does not want to
start therapy for 2 weeks (the last time he started it in 2 days). The
level of pain is not bad at all (that's good). The first day the nerve
block was numbing it for 12 hours, then when that wore off, it hurt real
bad. But now it is very manageable. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I
was told prior to the surgery that he needed 3 months to put me back in
shape, after the information he gave me post -op, I'm not so sure that's
still true. I have an appointment on the 21st and I'm sure I'll find out
more then. I'm still hopeful that I can run the qualifier at Susquehanna
at the end of Sept. and then the dirt nationals at Big Diamond in Oct.
That's my plan, but I'm not so sure the doc and I are reading the
program. I'll keep everyone informed and in the meantime have fun racing
and I'll see you at the track I'm sure (this sitting around
doing nothing really sucks)! Tom
